The short version: Spredin doesn't collect anything about you or your work. There's no account, no telemetry, no analytics, and no server that your workbooks pass through. The one thing the app does on its own is check for updates, described below.
Your files#
Your workbooks are files on your Mac. Spredin opens and saves them locally. They are never uploaded anywhere. The app opens only files you choose — in the Open or Save panel, from the Finder, or when a script or a database connection names a file and you allow it.
Checking for updates#
Once a day, and whenever you choose Help → Check for updates…, the app
fetches one small file from dl.spredin.com to learn whether a newer version
exists. That is an ordinary web request: like every request on the web it
shows the server an IP address and a user-agent string, and nothing else — no
identifier, nothing about you, nothing about your workbook. Nothing is
downloaded or installed until you say so, and the app only accepts an update
that carries our signature.
This website#
This site is a set of static files served by Cloudflare. It loads no fonts, no analytics and no scripts from anyone else, and it sets no cookies. Cloudflare, like any host, sees the requests it answers and keeps its own access logs for a short time; we add no analytics on top of that, and the only number we look at is how many times the app was downloaded.
Feedback you choose to send#
If you use Help → Send feedback…, the app prepares an email containing your message plus a short technical summary — the Spredin version, your macOS version, your interface language, how many sheets and cells are open, and any recent error messages the app noticed.
Two things about that:
- The dialog shows you the entire summary before you send it, and you can edit or remove any part.
- It becomes an ordinary email to us. It is not sent automatically, and there is no background reporting.
Error messages can occasionally quote a formula or a cell reference from your workbook, which is exactly why they're shown to you rather than attached invisibly.
We use what you send only to understand and fix the problem, and we don't pass it to anyone else.
The AI features#
Spredin can use an AI model to write scripts for you. You choose which model, and where it runs.
- A model on your own Mac (the default we recommend) — your prompt and the relevant parts of your sheet go to a program running locally. Nothing leaves your machine.
- A hosted provider, if you configure one with your own API key — in that case your prompt and a summary of your sheet are sent to that provider, and their privacy policy applies to it. Spredin tells you which of the two you're using in the settings dialog. Your API key is kept in your Mac's Keychain and is sent only to the provider you configured.
We are not in the middle of either arrangement. We don't proxy AI requests and we never see them.
Crash recovery#
Spredin keeps a recent snapshot of unsaved work on your own Mac so it can offer it back after an unexpected quit. It is stored locally and is cleared when you save, or when you choose not to save.
